UF libraries are giving students another reason to cheer for every touchdown this football season.
The Pay for Performance Florida Football Challenge is back for a second year, encouraging participants to pledge money for each Gator touchdown made throughout the football season.
The money that is raised will be used to extend library hours during the weeks surrounding final exams.
Participants can fill out the form on the George A. Smathers Libraries website and specify the amount they would like to pledge, anywhere from 25 cents to $100 per touchdown, and pick which library will receive their donation.
“I think it’s an innovative way to raise money for the libraries,” said Barbara Hood, spokeswoman for Smathers Libraries.
Last year the fundraiser had 88 donors, and the libraries were able to extend hours during the final exam periods for both the fall and spring semesters, Hood said.
The purpose is to acquire as many pledges as possible, said Samuel Huang, associate dean for advancement and development.
So far this year, 54 people have committed to making donations, according to Huang.
If there is leftover money, it will be used toward buying laptops for the laptop loan program, he said.
“I always say that nobody graduates from the library,” Huang said. “But nobody graduates without using the library.”
