University Copy & More, which has been at 1620 W University Ave. for 43 years, has outgrown its location and will merge with its sister store, Target Copy, starting Friday.
University Copy & More and Target Copy, 1412 W University Ave., are owned by the same company and have been working together for years.
Instead of relocating to a separate part of town, the company decided to move the store a few blocks away to Target Copy, which has more than five times as much square footage.
“You can only do so much with 800 square feet,” said Bob Oetter, the president of University Copy & More and Target Copy. “Customers couldn’t get everything we could offer because we just didn’t have the room.”
As the industry has grown, and copy stores have been able to add services, the machines have grown in size and sophistication. In the past, fewer computers were needed because certain services weren’t available, Oetter said.
University Copy & More wants to provide its customers with the most up-to-date services, but the size of the machines makes it difficult to do so. Some new machines can be up to 18 feet long, and manufacturers require additional space on each side for repairs, Oetter said. This is space University Copy & More does not have.
“The biggest benefit will be the fact that we can put our best foot forward,” Oetter said. “Customers will have a much clearer picture of what we can do for them and what we can do to make it easier for them.”
At this time, four University Copy & More employees have been relocated to the two Target Copy locations. Two employees are still interviewing and going over availability, Oetter said, but they will have priority over open positions.
