Chris Rainey’s adjustment period to the wide receiver position has been put on hold.
The redshirt junior has been held out of action because of an accelerated heartbeat. Rainey played running back in his first two seasons at Florida.
“He missed a couple of practices because of a racing heartbeat. He had a little procedure done,” Meyer said.
According to the Miami Herald, Rainey underwent a non-invasive cardiac procedure, in which they did not penetrate the skin.
“He should be ready to go within the next couple of days,” Meyer said.
NOTES:
*Meyer said Rainey and Janoris Jenkins would be the top two candidates to return punts if the season began today. He also envisions Rainey along with Jeff Demps returning kicks.
*Matt Patchan has a hairline fracture in his wrist. The injury will keep him out of practice for about two weeks.
*Freshman wide receiver Chris Dunkley is suffering from a hamstring injury that has hampered him since high school. He is expected to be out for 10 days.
*Wide receiver Andre Debose said he is back to 100 percent after sitting out last season because of a hamstring injury. “I can actually run as fast as I can now” he said.
*When asked if John Brantley is mobile enough to make plays, offensive lineman Carl Johnson referred to the quarterback as a silent assassin. “Don’t be surprised if you see him take one 60 yards to the house,” he said.
