Grooveshark, a free music-streaming website, is now the biggest thing to come out of Gainesville since Tom Petty and Gatorade.
The website, founded in 2007 by then-UF undergrads Sam Tarantino and Josh Greenberg, was named one of the five best music and video websites by Time magazine in its "50 Best Websites 2010" list last week.
Time hails Grooveshark for having "one of the most complete libraries of any music site," and for giving users the option to create playlists or listen to streaming radio based on their individual preferences.
"It's an honor to be recognized by Time, and we appreciate them including us in their list," said Vishal Agarwala, Grooveshark's director of marketing. "We look forward to more grandpas and grandmas using the service."
Agarwala said he's been working with the company for the past four years and calls the job "a dream come true." He thinks it's his co-workers who help set the company apart from competitors.
