Florida 2011 commit Ja’Juan Story, 18, was arrested late Sunday night, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
Story, a four-star wide receiver out of Brooksville Nature Coast, was arrested at 11:28 p.m. and charged with battery.
On Monday, Story told the Gainesville Sun that when the incident occurred, he was trying to break up a fight between three women and the mother of his brother’s child.
According to what Story told the Sun, he took a box cutter away from his brother’s girlfriend, Julisa Walker, and tried to tell one of the other women to leave, but they started fighting again and he was cut on the knuckles when he attempted to break it up.
"Someone said it looked like I hit the mom, but I didn't," he told the Sun via text message. "When I finally broke it up and got the girl to leave someone called the police. I was just trying to break everything up since no one else was. I didn't do anything wrong. The only thing I did wrong was be there."
According to the police report, multiple witnesses and the victim claimed Story punched the victim.
Story was issued a citation to appear in court on Sept. 15, and he said he has informed the UF coaching staff of the arrest.
Walker, 19, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated battery.
Story committed to UF on June 28 as the ninth member of the Gators’ 2011 recruiting class.
