A man already facing charges for shoplifting is wanted by Gainesville Police for armed robbery of a Kangaroo convenience store on Wednesday.

Michael Calloway, 33, walked into the Kangaroo on Waldo Road and East University Avenue, and told the clerk that he had a gun, according to a GPD press release.

Calloway didn't demand money from the clerk, simply a carton of Newport cigarettes. He then got away by bicycle, the release stated.

According to Sgt. Chuck Reddick, GPD sent out special detail units Thursday to search for Calloway, but turned up nothing.

Calloway is a black man standing at 5'6" and 150 pounds, according to the release.

Anyone who thinks they may have information as to his whereabouts is asked to call Courtnay Roberts at 352-334-2490, or the Combined Communications Center at 352-955-1818.
