UF faculty members can now go to Haiti without restrictions, according to a Monday afternoon memo from UF Provost Joseph Glover and Vice President for Student Affairs Patricia Telles-Irvin.

After the country suffered a 7.0-magnitude earthquake Jan. 12, a memo was released Feb. 5 announcing restrictions against travel to Haiti.

The original announcement said no UF-related trips were allowed without specific approval from UF administrative officials, but now UF faculty members can visit Haiti as long as they fill out travel forms.

The memo also advised faculty to consider warnings against traveling to Haiti.

Graduate students are allowed to visit the country if they sign a waiver with two weeks’ advance.

They must also meet seven specific requirements, such as the possession of “personal maturity” and medical insurance.

Undergraduate students are still not allowed to visit the country in any UF-affiliated capacity.

Undergrads remain free to visit Haiti on non-UF-related business, the memo said.
