EARTH University united students, faculty, alumni and friends in over 30 countries around the world with a pledge to plant one million trees worldwide. In commemoration of EARTH University's twentieth anniversary, and in union with World Environment Day, EARTH university organized an entire day devoted to simultaneous global tree planting effort called "EARTH Plants the Future."
University of Florida students and EARTH University alumni gathered at Prairie Creek Preserve to respond to the challenge. The group planted over 2,000 trees with the help of sponsors such as the Alachua Conservation Trust, which provided the land and technical expertise, as well as Neutral Gator, which donated the trees.
EARTH University, located in Guácimo, Limón, Costa Rica, is an international university focused on sustainable development, rational use of natural resources and dedication to the education of agricultural sciences. In an attempt to address environmental destruction and climate change, EARTH University organized tree planting efforts in each of the 30 countries where its graduates reside, and with the help of sponsors and friends "EARTH Plants the Future" surpassed its goal by planting 1,195,371 trees worldwide.
