Comics—and comic-based shows and movies—represent a modern mythology that is otherwise missing from our American culture. Humans have always enjoyed telling epic tales of heroes who are capable of much more than mortal men. These stories have been around for centuries and will persist.
These tales also serve a valuable purpose: They inspire humanity to achieve greatness. Whether the Alligator Editorial Board collectively enjoys them is irrelevant. Do you also dislike Greek, Roman or Norse mythology? Are you planning to slam them in your next editorial? You kiddies might try researching a topic and learning about its intrinsic value to a society before running off at the keyboard.
But then again, we are talking about the Alligator Editorial Board.
