There appears to be no limit to what busybody bureaucrats like Gainesville’s Equal Opportunity Director Cecil Howard will
do next. The push to end “ladies night” may seem like a minor annoyance, but this egregious abuse of government power should be opposed by all groups, male and female.
Are “ladies nights” discrimination? Yeah. So, what? Anti-discrimination laws were put in place to penalize businesses that discriminated in a way that offends a normal person’s sense of justice and morality (whether it’s moral to impose your views on someone else is a discussion for another day).
If a law firm offered a black law student a job after reading his résumé, looking at his grades, giving him a phone interview and then fired him as soon as they saw the color of his skin, almost all of us would find that action morally offensive. Ladies night, however, offends (practically) no one’s sense of justice or fairness. Newsflash to Mr. Howard: Guys and gals love ladies nights.
So mind your own damn business and let the ladies at UF enjoy their free drinks on Wednesday night at Gator City and Copper Monkey.
