The fourth film in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise certainly caused a cheer from half of us and a groan from the other half, but it’s very likely that we will all see it.
But, since the announcement that it will be released sometime in the spring of 2011, we haven’t heard much about “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”
Recently, casting calls for the film have been released with an interesting stipulation: Women with breast implants need not apply.
Now before we start praising Disney for using “real women” in their films and teaching girls that you don’t need to alter your body to be beautiful, let’s take a look at the call sheet.
It reads, “Beautiful Female Fit Models. Must be 5’7-5’8, Size 4 or 6 — NO BIGGER OR SMALLER. Age 18-25. Must have a lean dancerbody. MUST have real breasts. Do not submit if you have implants.”
Oh, we see now. Women in this film can’t have implants because those aren’t natural. But they have to fit a very specific height within two inches and will be measured by their dress size, which is an ever-changing nightmare for most women.
And in case we were wondering if Disney was trying to get women without surgical alterations to be more true to the time period, we made ourselves think again. Women in the time of Jack Sparrow were usually more sought after if they were busty lasses with big hips and chests, not so much “lean dancerbod[ies].”
