Gator Growl 2010 is all about new beginnings.
For this year’s theme, “Celebration of a Gator Nation,” the Gator Growl staff is trying to tap into UF’s diverse Student Body by holding casting calls Friday and Saturday.
“This year we want to give Gator Growl back to the students,” said Gator Growl spokesman Bryan Griffin.
Students who want to try out can sign up in the Florida Blue Key office, Room 365 in the Reitz Union.
“We are celebrating a fresh start,” Griffin said. “The new football team is a reason for celebration.”
Tryouts will take place Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. in Room B60 in the Reitz Union. Griffin said the creative team is looking for talented students to be involved in skits, videos and other acts during the event.
Hundreds usually try out, and this year the staff is trying to include as many as possible, he said.
“We are open to new ideas,” Griffin said. “There are so many different tastes and talents at UF.”
Griffin said casting calls are open to anyone interested.
“We want a wide spectrum of students performing,” he said.
Students are expected to begin practicing for the event at the start of the fall semester, Griffin said.
He said the Gator Growl staff hopes this year’s event will involve more students from all different organizations.
“We want this year to break stereotypes,” Griffin said. “We can move into an entirely cooperative show.”
