The cancelation of the Band of Horses concert turned the potentially greatest exam week many of us would have seen in years into the worst. Heaven forbid we stop cramming and let the Adderall wear off long enough to relax and enjoy some music. True, the Slightly Stoopid concert got a little more “stoopid” than we all expected, but I doubt that fans would have gotten rowdy enough during “The Funeral” to crowd surf and smoke out the Reitz Union Ballroom. Personally, I am embarrassed that our school feels the need to ground us for exam week because we aren’t responsible enough to attend a concert during a study break. Don’t lecture us on stress management, UF; you’ve lost your credibility.
The only way to redeem ourselves at this point is for one of the bars (that we so loyally support) to step up and host the show. If not to be polite to the band and its already-scheduled tour, then to show that we still rock, even if the UF administration doesn’t. Coming from someone who was blown away by their concert two years ago, we are missing out if we pass up this chance.
We should prove to Band of Horses that “No One’s Gonna Love You” more than Gainesville does. Besides, I would rather rock out downtown than in the Reitz any day.
