UF students took a ride on the dinosaur train Thursday night at the Florida Museum of Natural History.

Paleontologist Scott Sampson, author and host of the PBS series “Dinosaur Train,” presented a free lecture and book signing to an audience of 100 people.

Sampson spoke about his new book, “Dinosaur Odyssey: Fossil Threads in the Web of Life.”

Sampson is currently promoting his book in 20 different cities across the country.

He has published more than 130 articles, and he has lectured to people of all ages on dinosaurs and evolution.

“You don’t need to be an expert to be a paleontologist,” he said. “Dinosaurs are everywhere.”

Sampson will speak today at the museum from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. about his show “Dinosaur Train,” which is sponsored by the museum, WUFT-TV/DT and the Early Learning Coalition of Alachua County.

Assistant director of education and visitor services for the museum Jamie Creola said Sampson was paid $2,000 to speak at both events.
