Student Finance Group challenges UF clubs to hot-chicken-wing contest

The Student Finance Group is challenging all UF student organizations on campus to take on the nuclear chicken wing.

The Student Finance Group is teaming up with the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s on University Avenue to host the Nuclear Chicken Wing Eating Inferno on March 18 at 8 p.m.

The registration deadline for the contest is Friday at 11:59 p.m., and any student organization can participate, said Bastian Bockenhuser, Student Finance Group fundraising director.

Bockenhuser said the event gives student organizations the chance to win cash prizes and gift cards.

Students will also sample some spicy wings, which Student Finance Group President Jonathan Saxer has already sampled.

“I’ve tried these nuclear wings, and I felt like my tongue was going to fall off,” Saxer said. “I seriously couldn’t eat for two days afterward.”

Each registered organization must supply one representative and at least 10 supporters, Saxer said. The representative will have 10 minutes to eat as many nuclear chicken wings as possible.

Tim McGivern, the co-owner of the West University Avenue Beef ‘O’ Brady’s, said the winner will receive $250 in cash for his or her student organization and a $50 Beef ‘O’ Brady’s gift card for his or herself.

“It’s great exposure for us, and it’s a great cause,” McGivern said. “We want to give back to the community.”

Other prizes include a $50 gift card for the best costume and a $50 gift card for the organization that brings the most supporters, he said.

Organizations can e-mail Bastian Bockenhuser at

bastiannicolas@ufl.edu to register.
