Tuesday’s Senate meeting was all about hello and goodbye.
After the outgoing Senators said their farewells, 42 newly elected Senators took their seats in the chambers.
Unite Party Sen. Kara Olesky was elected as the new Senate president, and Unite Party Sen. Thomas Hilton will hold the position of Senate pro-tempore.
Former Student Alliance Sen. Emily Hunt, who represented the College of Nursing, encouraged the Senate to remember that they are all there for the same reason, and much can be accomplished through just listening and cooperating with members of other SG parties.
“Something that I’ve really strived for here is to get along with everyone,” Hunt said.
Ashton Charles, Student Body president-elect, encouraged senators to work together and be civil to each other as they work for students’ needs.
“We’re all people, and I think all people should be treated with respect, regardless of party,” Charles said.
Senators unanimously approved the spring SG election results and passed a resolution commemorating the 30th anniversary of Women’s History Month.
