Perpendicular to Sorority Row is a road with cracks, potholes and a garbage bin where someone has scribbled “Dinosaur Zone.”
The road connects Southwest Eighth and Southwest Ninth avenues and runs between Alpha Delta Pi and Phi Mu sororities.
It is due for a repaving, said Scott Fox, the UF Transportation and Parking Services director.
The repaving will cost about $100,000, and funding for the project will come from Student Traffic Court-issued citation fees, Fox said.
It will take place over Spring Break, when all of UF’s sororities will be closed.
The project started when the chief justice of the Student Traffic Court brought the road's condition to Fox's attention.
Sorority members who have to drive through the alley to get to their sorority houses said the project is necessary.
“I feel like the frame of my car is going to bend because it’s so steep,” said Kimberly Linton, a UF freshman and a member of Chi Omega.
Student Body President Jordan Johnson said in an e-mail that all sorority members must move their cars from the road to make way for the project.
Kellie Cross, a member of Chi Omega, said the repaving project is a great thing because it will happen at a time when campus is nearly empty.
“It will be well worth it, and it really won’t be an inconvenience,” said Cross, a senior education major.
