More than 500 students hunted for apartments, condos and gifts at the off-campus housing fair Thursday on the Reitz Union Colonnade.
About 65 apartment complexes used music, food, free T-shirts, water bottles, games and even a free cruise raffle to lure potential residents to their complex’s tables.
UF sophomore Urielle Renelus enjoyed the entertainment at the fair. She played football, entered raffles and left the fair carrying bags with free items.
“The more free stuff they have, the more I am attracted to the table,” Renelus said.
Joshua Marx, a leasing manager for Campus Lodge, attended the fair to promote the complex and its upcoming pool party.
“We feel it’s a great way to promote and get the word out about our community,” Marx said.
Some complexes were offering specials.
Kimberly Wootton, a property manager for Pinetree Gardens, said those who heard about her complex at the fair would be offered specials.
Ani Sanchez, director of the housing fair, said the fair is a good way for students to find the best place to live next year.
She was very satisfied with the turnout. They got the word out about the fair through fliers, radio announcements, Twitter and Facebook.
