Fake orgasms, free condoms and sex jeopardy were all tools used to arouse UF students’ interest in awareness about sexual issues in Anderson Hall Monday night.

About 25 students attended the Let’s Talk About Sex forum sponsored by Global Empowerment, a UF service organization.

“You have the whole stigma of college where everyone is going crazy and having sex,” said Lauren Taylor, a UF biology junior and the vice president of Global Empowerment. “But if you’re going to have sex, then you need to have smart sex.”

The discussion also covered sexting, with Jessica Moscoso, a UF criminology and political science sophomore, giving a humorous speech.

Moscoso said sexting promotes sex as the basis of relationships. She said parents need to focus on the role of new technology in relationships rather than continuing to give the same “birds and bees” talk.

“I mean everyone knows how to put on a condom thanks to things like basic cable and bananas,” Moscoso said.

Cecilia Printy, a family, youth and community sciences sophomore, came to the event because she is passionate about sexual education issues, particularly ones like sexting, that affect younger people.

“Sexting allows kids to get involved with the opposite sex earlier, and so I’m glad that I didn’t get a phone until I’m older,” Printy said.
