Delta Upsilon Fraternity members were willing to lose blood to win the Blood Cup Award, which was presented to the group at The Swamp Restaurant Thursday night.
The award goes to the Greek student organization that donates the most blood or has the highest percentage of member participation in a two-week blood drive competition sponsored by LifeSouth Community Blood Centers.
The three Greek organizations with the highest total donations were awarded a social sponsored by LifeSouth Community Blood Centers.
Bryan Griffin, president of Delta Upsilon, said people who make a collective effort to give back can make a difference.
All of Delta Upsilon's members participated in the drive, and other students donated on behalf of the fraternity, Griffin said.
Clay Gibbons, the community development coordinator of LifeSouth, said Greeks play a huge role in the blood drive and come out in full force.
During the award ceremony, Griffin encouraged all students to donate blood during this semester’s blood drive to help those in need.
The next blood drive for Greek organizations will be held on March 22 and will end on April 1.
Eric Weber, vice president of public relations for Delta Upsilon, said the victory represented an accomplishment for the pledge class and the fraternity.
“We are very service oriented and love to give back,” Weber said.
