I was misrepresented in the Alligator on Monday concerning my knowledge of the city’s strong anti-discrimination protections.
I have been a human rights activist from the time I was 18 and worked on anti-discrimination issues at UF.
I have always been opposed to discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
I have always supported equal rights for all people and taken time off from my studies at UF to help migrant farm workers achieve the rights that are afforded to other workers in the United States when they were being mistreated.
To have commented on my stance without ever reading it is unconscionable, especially with an election the next day.
The Alligator should strive to be a professional newspaper with strong fact checking standards.
Craig Lowe knows that I support him and that our differences are in other areas such as my opposition to building a new power plant, the lack of action at Koppers Superfund site, the continued limits on food for the hungry and the dismal budgetary track record of our commission.
I always investigate issues and read documents before signing my name and that’s exactly the case here. You should want to endorse a candidate who does her homework.
Our country was founded on the ideals of freedom from discrimination. I support those ideals.
