Unite’s Senate candidates chosen based on obedience, not merit

The Alligator forgot the most important choice voters face in its editorial: the Senate slate.

The Student Alliance party’s Senate slate is filled with campus leaders from dozens of student organizations. All of our candidates were selected because they have a drive to make Student Government better. They think SG is broken, and now it is time to fix it.

The Unite Party slate was not chosen based on merit. Its candidates are based on what seats are assigned to a particular organization. I have no doubt that some of its candidates are qualified, but a majority were chosen because they won’t question the party line. Obedience, not leadership, is its strongest attribute.
