Two St. Francis House residents were arrested and charged with attempted murder for beating a homeless man Saturday.

Anthony Fox, 38, and Beverely Thorton, 37, visited the victim, Thorton’s ex-boyfriend in his tent at Tent City, to pick up some of her things, according to the Gainesville Police Department report.

Fox cut into the tent, then punched the man in the face, put a knife to his neck and said, “I’m gonna kill you,” the report stated.

Thorton grabbed a tree limb and beat her ex-boyfriend in the face, arm, knee and pelvis. He was left unconscious, swollen, bruised and bleeding heavily, police said.

The victim woke up six hours later and called for help until someone took him to the emergency room at Shands at UF. Fox admitted he “beat his ass with the stick” in self defense and was found carrying a knife with blood on it.
