I was surprised by Wednesday’s letter about how the Unite Party is really the Gator Party, but perhaps it shouldn’t be.

This campaign tagline has been used for three elections in a row by the Orange and Blue Party and its successor, but when has that ever stopped them before?

The Orange and Blue Party and its successor, the Student Alliance party, have several canned attacks against Unite. First, they criticize the fact that it has heavy organizational support from the Greek community, arguing there may even be a corrupt aspect to this.

The corruption argument is put down by the fact that Unite has led the most transparent Student Government in recent memory and has pledged to continue to work toward greater transparency.

Orange and Blue Party 2.0 also alleges that Unite doesn’t bring true results to students. Such a statement completely ignores the fact that Unite has doubled the size of the SG computer lab, extended SNAP hours, created a late-night study center in the Hub, installed hand sanitizers in the Reitz Union and increased awareness for student safety, among other accomplishments. Unite’s record shows one outstanding year.

So, we are being told by Student Alliance  party that Unite is actually the Gator Party that Unite is corrupt and Greeks are a bane to this campus; and that Unite has not brought tangible results to students. I also have some news: Pigs fly, and the sun comes out at night.

When will we stop hearing the same repetitive lies from the Student Alliance party? We didn’t believe it a year ago. We didn’t believe it last fall. We certainly won’t believe it now.
