The Student Alliance party has taken an unprecedented look at the issues. Instead of using regurgitated talking points, we’ve put serious thought and effort into a real platform. Most importantly, the Student Alliance party has focused on innovation and real ideas to improve student life and build a great future for UF.
Here are a few unique and innovative ideas for 2010: Bring video rental machines to campus. Bring Redbox or Blockbuster $1 DVD rental machines to the Reitz Union or Hub to provide affordable movie rentals and generate revenue to be directed back to students.
Create a speakers and performers’ endowment. The Student Alliance party vice presidential candidate, Sagar Sane, created a $2 million speakers’ endowment at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
If we raise money from Gators alumni and the University Athletic Association, we can bring quality speakers while taking a million dollars annually off the budget. Fire the ineffective Student Government lobbyists.
SG spends $55,000 every year on part-time lobbyists who have failed to protect the Bright Futures Scholarship Program. Fire the lobbyists and use that money to fund a direct student lobbying campaign in City Hall, Tallahassee and Washington.
Expand off-campus Gator 1 Card partnerships. The Student Alliance party wants to reach out to off-campus businesses to set up Gator 1 programs like the one currently at Target Copy.
Expand support of graduate research. Double the amount of money given to the Graduate Student Council for travel and research grants to support vital graduate research in a down economy.
