Students hungry for change will see adjustments to the food options and dining hall hours on campus.
Papa John’s will replace the Noodle Bar, and Panda Express will replace Subway in the Reitz Union food court.
Eddie Daniels, Reitz Union executive director, said he expects both venues to be open by Summer B.
These new restaurants could be coupled with new price hikes for meal plans.
Students who buy meal plans might see a $50 price increase for all plans next semester, according to a proposal endorsed by the Food Service Advisory Committee at a meeting Wednesday.
While the proposal calls for each of the five plans to cost $50 more, it also grants 50 more flex bucks for all but the most expensive plan.
Flex bucks can be spent at campus restaurants and convenience stores.
The proposal comes at a time when meal plans are becoming more popular.
Jill Rodriguez, marketing program manager for Gator Dining Services,
aid record numbers of students filled dining halls in the fall.
Rodriguez said 400 more people have retained meal plans this semester
“We had the highest participationever,” she said.
UF sophomore Ben Meyers, a student representative on the committee, said he was pleased to see stu dents continuing to stick with mealplans.
“The retention rate shows it works,”he said.
