Ryan Scott’s letter to the editor Tuesday stated that “as much as changing the name and logo of a party can be aesthetically pleasing, it doesn’t hide the fact that the party is Orange and Blue 2.0.”
So, he’s basically saying that the Student Alliance party changed its name to cover up some former indiscretion in hopes that no one would notice, right? That sounds really familiar.
Oh, wait. Remember those e-mails between top Gator Party officials that talked about how to keep the Orange and Blue Party from getting certain Senate appointments and committee assignments?
It turns out the Gator Party was so unhappy about those e-mails being leaked that it tried to steal all the Alligator newspapers that morning to prevent the student body from reading about it. That was followed up with a bombardment of anti-Orange and Blue Party fliers titled “Lies,” for which it subsequently apologized.
It’s no surprise that the semester after that politically damaging scandal, the Gator Party changed its name to the Unite Party. So, I find it funny that Student Alliance party is being unjustly accused of something the Unite/Gator Party has actually done fairly recently because that happened only a little over a year ago. I guess some people are quick to forget.
