Florida defensive tackle Gary Brown was dismissed from the team Friday following his arrest last weekend on two misdemeanor battery charges.

Brown slapped one female and scratched another after they asked him to leave a party around 5 a.m. last Sunday, according to a police report.

“Gary Brown has had a history during his time here of not meeting a set of expectations we have for the student athletes in our football program, and therefore he is no longer part of our program,” UF spokesman Steve McClain said.

Brown, a five-star recruit last year out of Greensboro West Gadsden High, didn’t see any playing time in his freshman season, and he would likely have faced pressure from incoming freshmen for playing time next year.

The Gators signed three highly-rated defensive tackles in their 2010 recruiting class: Dominique Easley, Sharrif Floyd and Leon Orr.
