26 couples wed, renew vows at Hippodrome

Carron Smith and Richard Smith renewed their vows for Valentine’s Day.

They were not alone.

In the basement of the Hippodrome State Theatre, 17 other couples renewed their vows Sunday afternoon alongside eight couples who were getting married for the first time at the Hunter and Dixon’s Valentine’s Day Mass Wedding.

Radio personalities Hunter and Dixon of 92.5 WIND-FM organized the event.

Dixon credited the community for helping to make the event a reality.

“We had no idea what we were doing,” he said. “It was three days before we realized, ‘It’s a wedding — oh, hey, there should probably be flowers.’”

The Rev. Nathan Sommons, a Baptist minister who also works as a park ranger in Keystone Heights, performed the ceremony.

The Plant Shoppe donated flowers, and Ms. Debbie’s Sugar Art donated a wedding cake, said Jim Robertson, general manager of WIND-FM.

Local band The Shambles provided live entertainment, and Dove Photography took photos of the newlyweds.
