Mayor Pegeen Hanrahan will discuss Gainesville’s 2009 accomplishments and its short-term plans for the future in the 2010 State of the City address today.
The speech, which is open to the public, will begin at 8 a.m. at the Hippodrome State Theatre, 25 SE Second Place.
Bob Woods, city of Gainesville spokesman, said Hanrahan began the State of the City address six years ago, during her first term.
“The mayor will highlight some of this year’s successes and talk about moving toward the future and the kind of Gainesville we all want to live in,” Woods said.
Hanrahan is expected to discuss topics including environmental conservation, neighborhood improvement and budget issues.
“This address is an unfettered opportunity for the mayor to inform the public on the city commission’s perspective,” Woods said.
Those who cannot attend can watch the address on television on Community12, which is on Cox Cable channel 12.
A print document of the address will also be available on the city’s Web site. Eventually, a video of the address will stream on the city’s Web site at cityofgainesville.org, Woods said.
“One of the great things about Gainesville is that we have a civically engaged community,” Woods said. “That’s why we enjoy the standard of living that we do.”
