You drink, you drive, you lose... lose the Southeastern Conference?
I do not renounce any statement I have made in previous letters: a DUI is a bad mistake. No one gets into his or her car drunk with intentions to harm another person. I am confident that Gators defensive end Carlos Dunlap did not drink and drive with intentions of putting our football crown at risk. I do hope that because Dunlap cannot play in the SEC championship, and because this could possibly affect all of our SEC football hopes, that this incident helps bring home the point that drinking and driving hurts everyone.
A DUI is not just an expensive fine, and not just the front page of the Alligator. A DUI is a crime committed with the risk of seriously hurting or even killing another human being.
What will it take, Gainesville? Maybe this is the lesson we needed.
First, Go Gators, then — let’s all grow up and start acting like some.
