UF will conduct another mass vaccination for the H1N1 flu virus Thursday after receiving a shipment of 1,850 doses Monday afternoon.
The free vaccines will be administered to students at the Student Health Care Center between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. To sign up for a vaccination, students must register online.
There will be 100 slots every half hour, which means up to 1,600 students will be vaccinated Thursday. The rest of the doses will likely be given to the Health Science Center for students and health care professionals, said Kat Lindsey, SHCC marketing coordinator. UF also has about 100 doses left from the last vaccination session.
Monday’s shipment included both the nasal mist and injectable forms of the vaccine.
About 500 of the doses are mist, Lindsey said.
Health care workers will be stationed outside the SHCC advising students which form they should receive, she said.
She said many people thinkthe nasal form of the vaccine is more dangerous, but SHCC workers will try to dispel that rumor.
Because they expect a larger number of students, Lindsey said there will be one or two extra nurses on hand to administer vaccines.
