UF receives federal grants to increase alcohol awareness

UF is increasing alcohol awareness after receiving two grants from the U.S. Department of Education in July and October. The money will be used to create a new advertising campaign, which will debut in the spring.

The number of students who binge drink has increased nationally, and the university plans to raise awareness, said Maureen Miller, alcohol and drug prevention specialist for GatorWell.

Last year, GatorWell created 12 advertisements to discourage students from binge drinking.

GatorWell will hold discussions with focus groups at the beginning of the spring semester to find out how many students binge drink.

The organization will also conduct individual interviews with students to determine the best way to impact the Student Body.

The goal of the new advertisements is to address high-risk drinking and to get students' input on why they drink.
