I wanted to thank Mike McCall for his article in Monday’s paper, “Meyer, Spurrier not to be compared,” which was about comparing the “Old Ball Coach” to Urban Meyer. It is like comparing apples to oranges.
I have been a Gators fan since the day I was born and I can remember the Steve Spurrier era as well as the not-so-pretty Ron Zook years. Spurrier will always be my favorite, but it is hard to not love a man who has won two national championships in such little time.
I think a lot of the disagreements come between those who were Gators fans since birth and those who casually joined the Gator Nation once they were accepted to their “back-up school.”
Those who were not Gators fans before their acceptance letters arrived will never truly be able to appreciate what Steve Spurrier did for our football program; at the same time coach Meyer has made it “Great to be a Florida Gator” once again.
