They walked onto the fog-filled stage wearing black masks. When the masks came off, the crowd cheered as the newly inducted members of Pi Delta Psi revealed themselves to the Greek community.

Pi Delta Psi, an Asian cultural fraternity in the Multicultural Greek Council, unveiled its new members to a crowd of about 400 at the Reitz Union amphitheater Monday night. The crowd included members of Greek organizations and student organizations.

Jin Wang, a UF sophomore, was one of the newly inducted members. He said the organization gives Asian Americans the chance to learn about their Asian culture and promote cultural awareness.

As a member, he hopes to make the organization more well-known at UF and help it spread across the U.S.

Loc Nguyen, the president of Pi Delta Psi, said the organization also strives to promote scholarship, loyalty and friendship among its members.

Nguyen said watching the new members perform brings him back to his own introduction and makes him reflect upon his own journey in the fraternity.

“It’s a really big thing for us,” Nguyen said. “It’s a really big thing for them. It’s definitely a life-changing event.”
