I was scanning over the Opinions section Wednesday and noticed the results of Tuesday's poll amidst the frivolous quarrels over Guevara. Fifty-one percent of people don't like riding the bus? I know this has been said before, but RTS workers are seriously under-appreciated.

Some of my best days at UF have ended with a very pleasant bus ride. What I've found is that most of the drivers are very nice, caring people to talk to. For some of them, you can tell it makes their day just to have someone nice to talk to for 15 minutes.

There's one lady in particular named Ollie that I will go out of my way for just to take her bus home because I enjoy her company so much. And yet, there is so much disrespect for these people. I was on the 35 once and when we stopped at Homestead apartments, she had to use the restroom, she said she would be right back and went to do her business.

When she got back on, some upturned-collar, Abercrombie-wearing jerk started heckling her about where she went and why it took so long, which was obviously not any of his business whatsoever.

These people are human beings, and I would bet they cherish the moments when they aren't stuck in those seats getting cut off by everyone in town. Everyone needs to cut them some slack.

Talk to your driver today. You just might make a new friend.
