EnVeg has declared war on climate change, and the weapon is diet change.
Eight students from the student organization enVeg wrote messages on the sidewalk outside Library West early Thursday morning describing how diet affects the Earth.
"Animal agriculture = climate change" and "Animal agriculture uses 1/3 our oil" were just a couple of the messages.
Livestock production accounts for 18 percent of global greenhouse emissions, according to a report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
"We try to take every opportunity to expose people to plant-based and vegan food," enVeg spokesman Chris Cano said.
Carlos Mateo, a health science senior and member of enVeg, was present at the event and helped write some of the messages.
"I decided last year to lower my meat consumption," Mateo said.
"Two or three days of the week I don't eat meat. It's actually pretty easy."
Carnivores can relax though - the goal of enVeg is not to convert everyone at UF to vegetarianism.
