The Robin Hood cartoon depicting President Bernie Machen is one of the best I have ever seen in this newspaper. It's a rather humorous way to touch on something so delicate as the budget cuts.
In my opinion, the university should walk away from reducing the number of faculty and staff members and concentrate on spending its money more wisely.
There is a lot of money being wasted internally. I work with the university, and I see many office supplies being wasted. There is a recycling program, but I seriously believe that we need to make use of other free resources, like PDF files instead of using so much paper. There are a lot of people who fear electronic media, and this can be changed by providing training for them.
Also, there is a lot of money being wasted on long-distance phone calls, which are unnecessary. Why doesn't the university use something like VoIP in some offices?
I know these seem like minor changes, but I was always taught that small things make huge differences.
