Police hunt for two in rape cases

Gainesville Police Department officials are asking locals to be on the lookout for two men suspected of raping two women.

Both women said they were robbed and attacked after they accepted rides home from a stranger, said Keith Kameg, GPD spokesman.

The first woman was assaulted on Aug. 30 when she accepted a ride home from a man, who then took her to the T.B. McPherson Center saying he needed to use the restroom, Kameg said.

A second man arrived carrying a handgun, robbed the woman of $5 and raped her.

Kameg said the second woman's case is similar, except that the gunman was armed with a shotgun and robbed her of $15 before raping her and beating her with the shotgun. She was attacked on Saturday.

The driver is described as an 18- to 20-year-old black man about 5 feet 5 inches tall with short hair.

The gunman is described as a black man about 5 feet 10 inches tall with short hair.

The car in both cases was described as a mid- to early-'90s white Grand Prix without tinting and a blue cloth interior.

GPD asks that anyone with information about either man or the vehicle call Detective Victoria Harris at 352-334-2470.
