A UF student was arrested Monday night for pushing a woman and cutting his own wrists with a large kitchen knife, according to the Gainesville Police Department.
Daniel Segarra, a 22-year-old microbiology senior, was arrested after fighting with a female friend at her apartment at The Polos, according to the report.
Segarra began arguing with the woman at the apartment, and she asked him to leave several times, the report stated.
She opened the door for him to leave, but each time he forced it shut.
He then entered the kitchen and grabbed a large knife, the report stated. He threatened to harm himself and then began to cut his own wrists.
The woman attempted to take the knife away from Segarra, bruising her wrists in the process.
The fight happened at about 4 a.m., and he was arrested at work at about 9 p.m., police said.
Segarra told police he didn't want to leave the apartment because he was tired and wanted to sleep.
He also admitted to cutting himself with a knife and that he may have pushed the victim to keep her away from the knife, according to the report.
Segarra was charged with armed trespassing and battery and is being held at the Alachua County Jail on $10,000 bond.
