UF coach Urban Meyer said he has had discussions with his staff on possibly getting Brandon James more touches.

The senior returns punts and kickoffs for the Gators as well as lining up at wide receiver and running back occasionally.

Opponents have taken to kicking away from James by utilizing rugby kicks or simply aiming out of bounds.

Offensively, James has five catches for 72 yards and a touchdown along with 51 yards on the ground on nine carries.

"We've actually had a discussion about getting him a little more involved," Meyer said. "That punter for Kentucky did a phenomenal job.

"His average hang time was over five seconds. That really limits your return game."

INJURY, ILLNESS LINGER: The Gators still haven't gotten rid of the flu.

Cornerback Markihe Anderson, safety Will Hill, reserve defensive end Kedric Johnson and scout-team quarterback Andrew Blaylock were all sick early this week, and UF coach Urban Meyer is hopeful his team can use the bye week to get healthy before traveling to LSU on Oct. 10.

"The good thing is we're going to [practice] Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and then Friday, Saturday and Sunday they're off," Meyer said. "And they're back Monday morning ready to go, so we're hoping that kind of wipes it out."

The bye will also give several starters a chance to overcome injury.

Receiver Deonte Thompson should be fully recovered from his hamstring injury, as he was available to play in an emergency role against Kentucky.

Offensive linemen Marcus Gilbert (elbow, bicep), Maurkice Pouncey (shoulder) and Mike Pouncey (ankle) should all be fine by next week, Meyer said.

Defensive tackle Lawrence Marsh may still need more time to recover from the high ankle sprain he suffered five weeks ago. He was on crutches Wednesday.

Meyer added that cornerback Moses Jenkins is receiving the same treatment as quarterback Tim Tebow. Both players suffered concussions last week at Kentucky.
