I feel something must be said about Pastor Terry Jones' guest column.

I am not religious by any means, but I have always respected all religions. Even though religion has never meant anything to me, I see how it can be hope for some and a driving force to do good in the world. I thought that this made religion a worthy thing to have.

Lately, I am starting to see that some religions, which were meant to be a peaceful gathering of people with the same beliefs, are morphing into competitive, discriminatory and overall disrespectful entities. Every time I see articles like this one or like the article about the "Islam is of the Devil" shirts, I lose more and more respect for Christianity.

I can't even believe the degree of closed-mindedness and discrimination in these articles.

Especially the part about America being a Christian nation.

I guess I missed the fine print where it said that the land of opportunity and freedom only applied to heterosexual, pro-life Christians. It's funny, because I thought there was something that was supposed to separate church from state, but I guess not.

To those Christians out there with these ideas who are afraid to speak out: Please do everyone a favor and continue to be afraid and be quiet, because you are just bringing down your religion.

And to the Christians who don't have these ideas: I am sorry you are lumped into this category.
