Soon-to-be-former Gov. Sarah Palin has been kicked around mercilessly by those who oppose her political views. Everything from her family to her wardrobe has been endlessly criticized.
When Eric Chianese started to write a column for last week's paper, maybe he had to pick from a withering amount of favorable topics for an Obama supporter.
Should he write on the national deficit that recently reached the staggering amount of $1 trillion? Or maybe try to understand how the federal government is trying to fix health care by throwing more money into a burning pit? Neither of these topics, I guess, were so flattering to the current president.
So Chianese resorted to what most left-leaning writers are best at: slinging mud at their favorite target, Gov. Palin.
Why do they attack her? Perhaps they are scared that a woman is supporting and pushing a conservative agenda. They can't possibly understand why she would, so instead of trying to understand her, they simply attack without any remorse and with growing ferocity.
Palin's critics were no doubt praying for a cheating scandal like Gov. Mark Sanford's. But nothing has really come up since her announcement.
Instead of just relying on what Gov. Palin said, everyone, especially Chianese, is still clinging to the hope that it is, in fact, a scandal without leaving room for any other possibility.
Chianese was right about one thing, America does need to laugh, and that is because of the deepening deficit and reckless spending in Washington, D.C.
