UF freshman Gray Horn leads the men's decathlon after the first day of the SEC Outdoor Championships taking place at Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium.
The sole UF athlete to compete during Thursday's events participated in the 100 meter dash, the long jump, the shot put, the high jump and the 400 meters.
Horn, who has placed in the top six in the first five legs of the decathlon, leads 16 other SEC athletes in the event.
"Gray put together a good first day," Florida multi-events coach Mellanee Welty said. "We have talked about his goals for the last couple of weeks and his performance…puts him in a position to accomplish them."
Horn is currently in first place with a total of 3,809 points. In second place is Tennessee sophomore Michael Ayers with 3,752 points. Rounding out the top five include Mississippi State freshman Tevarus Christian, Georgia junior Tommy Barrineau and Mississippi State senior Daryl Brady.
The men's decathlon begins its last five events Friday at 12:30 p.m. The SEC Outdoor Championships continue until Sunday evening.
