A man was arrested Sunday night after police say he shot a convenience store clerk in the head with a BB gun during a robbery to "gain street cred" for his rapping career.
At about 9:30 p.m. Friday, a man walked into the Super Stop Food Store, 2561 SW 31st Place, holding a BB gun and demanding money. When the store clerk tried to grab the gun, the man shot the clerk in the head, Gainesville Police Department spokesman Keith Kameg said. Then the man and his accomplice, who was waiting outside with a second BB gun, ran away empty-handed, the report stated. Kameg said GPD received a tip that Steven Gilmore, 21, robbed the store.
Officers obtained a warrant to search Gilmore's apartment and found the two BB guns and the bandana Gilmore wore during the robbery, Kameg said. In an interview, Gilmore told officials of his rapping aspirations, Kameg said.
