UPD searches for man who robbed two women at gunpoint

Police are still searching for a man who robbed two women with a gun in a hotel parking lot Saturday night.

At about 11:30 p.m., a man walked up to the women, who were getting out of their car to go into the Hilton Hotel and Conference Center on Southwest 34th Street.

The man pointed a semiautomatic handgun at the women and demanded that they give him their purses, a University of Florida Police release stated.

According to the release, when the women gave him their purses, the man ran toward Southwest Archer Road.

A UPD police dog followed the man as far as the Doyle Conner Building, 1911 S.W. 34th St., but couldn't catch him, the release stated.

The suspect is described as a black man, 18 to 20 years old, about 6'2" and between 150 and 160 pounds.

He was wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt, black shorts and large loose-fitting shoes with the shoelaces untied.

He was carrying a dark semiautomatic handgun that had scratches on the barrel.

Anyone who has information about this incident is asked to call 352-392-1111.
