The UF student accused of groping women on campus after telling them he was trying to remove a bug from their bodies may have groped as many as 36 women.
In five of the cases, it appears Robin Garg, 22, did not actually touch the women, according to the University Police Department.
Criminal charges are pending in the other 31 cases, UPD Lt. Darren Baxley said.
If each charge is for one misdemeanor count of battery, the maximum penalty in each case would be one year of imprisonment and a $1,000 fine.
As of Monday afternoon, Garg was still in the Alachua County Jail, with bail set at $5,000. Officers delivered a trespass notice to him in jail on Thursday, banning him from the UF campus.
Garg is not listed as a graduate teaching or research assistant, according to UF records.
UPD Lt. Robert Wagner said because Garg is a citizen of India, the department notified Immigration and Customs Enforcement of his situation.
ICE officials could not be reached for comment Monday about whether Garg's visa could be revoked.
Garg, a graduate student in computer and information science and engineering, was arrested Tuesday for groping a UF student outside Library West. After his arrest, he confessed to groping 33 women, Baxley said.
