At UF, No. 15 usually stands for quarterback Tim Tebow, but for Bobby Moon, it's the number of times he's declared a major.
The now-economics sophomore still plans to graduate on time. Moon began college as a mathematics major and went through physics, applied physiology and kinesiology, economics, philosophy, psychology, zoology, astronomy, aerospace engineering, food science and human nutrition, back to applied physiology and kinesiology, biology, environmental science, geology and finally economics again.
"It's not that I didn't like something about my majors," he said. "I just always found something else that I liked better and wanted to try."
The average UF student changes majors 1.5 times over his or her four years here, said Dr. Albert Matheny, director of the Academic Advising Center.
"Fifteen is a lot of major changes," Matheny said. "It's right up there with the most I've ever seen."
For Moon, the challenge was finding just one major to stick with.
"It's not that I lack motivation, it's just that I like too many things," Moon said. Moon went to six different advisers to make the changes.
After several changes, an adviser finally suggested that he just change his major to "exploratory" so that he could sit in one major while looking into others.
"Exploratory felt like a waste," Moon said. "I had all of the (prerequisites) for everything, so I thought I might as well be something."
Moon insists that he has finally found a major he is going to stick with.
"People are surprised that I say I am going to stick with economics because I say that every time with every major," Moon said.
Because of Moon's frequent changes, all of his schedules were created during drop/add week.
"I'm a pro at ISIS-stalking," Moon said. "I'm the best ISIS-stalker in the land."
