America celebrates the gullible today with April Fools' Day, and some students hope the holiday, that brings with it a tradition of pranks and practical jokes, will play in their favor.
Giacomo Savardi, a UF student, sat studying for a differential equations test with his notebook, various worksheets and laptop outside of Fletcher Hall Tuesday evening.
While he said he's ready to get the test over with, it would be a "pleasant surprise" if his professor canceled it as an April Fool's prank, he said.
Of the roughly 50 University of Florida students interviewed for this article, only about six could remember, or were willing to share, April Fools' pranks that involved themself or someone they knew.
Jamie Chapin, a UF finance major, was the only student interviewed who fell victim to an elaborate prank.
One year, when opening the door to his room, he triggered a string of firecrackers placed there by his roommate, he said.
The roommate had to crawl in and out of the window in order to pull the explosives off the door jamb.
"He got me pretty good," Chapin said.
