I found the title of Friday's opinion column titled "Bitter Teabaggers Ignored President's Package, Tax Cuts" to be very ironic. Jake Miller does make an extremely valid point about the frightening number of people ignoring the real implications of the president's package and tax cuts.
Sadly, Miller is among that group of people who are so Obama-crazed they fail to see the negatives down the road. Last year, the bottom 50 percent of tax payers only accounted for 2.99 percent of total income tax - not to mention the heavy implications of the stimulus package on the national debt and future taxes.
Megan McArdle, an economics writer for The Atlantic, warns, "This program is designed to move money out the door slowly and keep going. Moreover, the vast size of the package is going to add big costs in the not-so-distant future, which have barely been discussed."
Don't get me wrong. I'm not some super-wealthy, right-wing, tea-party-attending radical. Obama's predecessor will go down as one of this country's worst presidents, and I firmly believe he spent eight years earning that place in history. So enjoy being a deduction on your parent's taxes, Jake. I know when I have more at stake, I would rather not be punished for it.
